Bil-Jac treats want to remind you to keep your furry friend safe this holiday season. There are many hazards that lurk for a pup around the holiday season, many that you wouldn't even think about. Here are a few tips to keep your furry family member safe:
- Christmas plants are not only not good for dogs; they are poison. Make sure you keep your plants out of pups reach. Christmas trees can be harmful as well so put a pin around your tree or block off that room to your dog.
- Wrapping paper and ribbon can be dangerous as well. Make sure your pup does not decide that any of these are food.
- Did you know that Turkey is bad for dogs? It can cause pancreatitis which can be deadly.
- Chocolate is another no-no for dogs. Christmas comes with many sweets and many contain chocolate. Make sure to keep sweets out of pups reach and ensure guest know not to feed the dog table scraps.
- Alcoholic beverages are everywhere during the holidays. Alcohol is very dangerous for dogs and should never be given to a dog intentionally or on accident. Make sure drinks are kept high enough that that dog cannot get to them.
- Candles can easily be knocked over by pets or a dog with long hair could get to close to one. Make sure candles are up high and blown out when you leave the room.
- Electrical cords are not only a trip hazard for humans but for our four legged friends as well. They are also a chew hazard for the furry ones. Make sure you secure all wiring with wire covers or duck tape.
- No matter how well behaved your pet is there is always the risk of them running outside and something tragic happening. Make sure to lock your pet in a spare bedroom or a crate while guest are coming and going the minimize this risk.
- The holidays come with many visitors and overnight guest. Make sure if your guest take medication that the medication is in a secure place where your dog cannot get to it.
- Many fires happen during the holidays, make sure you have an emergency sticker on your windows that list how many of each pet your have.
- In many places antifreeze is a must in the winter months. Antifreeze is sweet tasting and animals like the way it taste. It is extremely dangerous for pets. Make sure your pets do not ingest this hazardous liquid.
Who wouldn't want to keep these faces safe?
