Aura Cacia Essential Oils

Essential oils  are highly concentrated, volatile, aromatic essences of plants.  They have many different functions in plants and differ based on the plant.  In some plants they may be part of the plant's immune system but in others they may be end-products of metabolism.  Essential oils are 75-100 times more concentrated than
oil found in dried herbs.

I have been using essential oils for years.  I have recently started using Aura Cacia Essential Oils and love them.  They are potent and Aura Cacia has a huge selection.  I have never seen so many types of essential oils in one place before.  I didn't even know there were that many different types.  They were nice enough to send me lavender, peppermint, sweet orange, eucalyptus, organic lavender, and organic peppermint to try.  I had only used peppermint and lavender before so it was nice to try a few new oils.

All of the oils have their own properties and work differently.  All essential oils have some type of aroma therapy benefits.

Peppermint is cooling, refreshing, and vitalizing.  I use peppermint essential oils for my baths.  But it is most useful when someone is sick and has stuffed up sinuses.  I rub a bit around the collar of the shirt and let it help clear the sinuses.  Munchkin 2 gets very stuffy when she is sick.  So much so that it throws her into coughing fits at night because she can't breathe.  If I put peppermint on her collar before bed and a little on her pillow she sleeps much better.

Lavender is one of my all time favorites.  It is used from everything from room sprays to bathes to massage oils.  It have a light floral aroma that does not overpowere and promotes relaxation.  I add lavender essential oils to my bath each night before bed because I have a hard time sleeping.  I helps me relax more and sleep once I go to bed.

Eucalyptus is super versatile I have come to find out.  It is great for topical salves as well as to help with the sinuses when a cold is present.  I have not had much experience with eucalyptus since this is my first encounter with it.

Sweet orange is an invigorating aroma that deteriorates quickly if not stored properly.  I opened up all the oils when I got them and was surprised at how yummy this one smelled.  There are two ways to get orange oil, distilling it from squeezed orange juice, which is not the best method.  Or by the method Aura Cacia uses, through expressing the oil from the peel.  Orange oil is used in fragrances and other bath and body products.  I am thrilled with the scent.

I love that they all have different uses and can be pair together for a whole new experience.  I plan on making shower pucks with them so that when sick I can toss a shower puck in to help loosen everything up or throw a sweet orange one in the shower if I need an extra boost in the morning.  Don't worry I will let you know to make them and give step by step instructions once I make them. Aura Cacia has some wonderful recipes on their site for each oil as well so you never feel lost with what to do with them, especially if it is your first time using essential oils.

One thing I love about this company in addition to its oils is that it is environmentally aware.  They make sure all the plants they use are sustainable.  They also want to make sure the farmers are treated fairly.  Aura Cacia ensures that the local villages where they harvest the fruits are happy and not put out.
