Tropical Traditions Palm Shortnening

Being from the south I love fried foods which means lots of oils and grease.  I know it isn't the healthiest of food choices but I love it and I don't see anything wrong with it if it isn't an everyday thing.  I just have to tell you about this new shortening I have found that is amazing for frying.  It is called Palm Shortening and it is made by the same company that makes one of my favorite Coconut Oils.....Tropical Traditions.

Palm Shortening is palm oil that has some of its unsaturated fats removed which gives the shortening a firm texture.   It is even trans fat free! I also love that it has a high melting point of about 97 degrees!  The high melting point makes it extremely shelf stable.  Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening is not only good for frying but also for baking which I love to do as well.

It is delicious and doesn't change the flavor of your food.  I made a batch of chicken tenders in my new fryer with the Palm Shortening and they were wonderful!  They did not have the heavy greasy taste that many fried foods have.   I also used it to make biscuits but instead of just making biscuits I used the biscuit dough to make breakfast calzones (pictured above).  They were absolutely delicious.  You can find the recipe for them here.

As many of you know I love products that are environmentally friendly.  Tropical Traditions is one of those companies.  The shortening is sourced from small, Eco-friendly sustainable family owned farms in South America.  These farms are all certified ProForest and Organic so you know you are getting a quality product.  The farm land was never deforested and has only been used for agricultural purposes such as cattle, rice and bananas in the past.

Tropical Traditions carries many other products in addition to the palm Shortening.  Some of these products are Coconut Oils,  skin care products, pet products, and so much more!  If you want to know more about how to use Coconut oil before buying then find out!   How to Use Coconut Oil: There are hundreds of uses!
